Is this the Boukari study? It’s only a short communication and the only information they give is “used makeup”, it doesn’t say anything about how the final makeup looked.

I believe their thoughts were the sunscreen contained more iron oxide, though I would have thought, assuming it’s tinted, it would have similarly limited application amounts without looking cakey. What are your thoughts? This seems somewhat contradictory with some of the findings you mention where lower spf foundations were sometimes more protective than higher spf products. I’m imagining a lot depends on application amounts. PIH susceptible gal here who usually wears non tinted spf 30-50 sunscreen and then a light application of spf 15 mineral makeup wondering if it’s worth changing my routine. I definitely would not wear a heavy application of colored/tinted product of any kind for cosmetic reasons. Thanks!

Is there a good tinted sunscreen that isn’t too obvious? Is there any other way we can protect against blue light? Especially if I work in the sun all day? Besides sun avoidance and hats.

In theory it would work, but I don’t think iron oxides stain that way – gradual tanners are usually ingredients that react with skin to form melanoidins.

EDIT: I’m asking about the possibility of a gradual self-tanner in the context of protecting the /body/ from hyperpigmentation. Not the face.

So, a daily gradual tanner + a regular sunscreen? My friend and I were talking about tinted sunscreens for hyperpigmentation and she mentioned that she used a tinted sunscreen as a body sunscreen (it somehow doesn’t stain??) and I was just wondering if there was a cheaper way to go about it. Her skin is Type V on the Fitzpatrick scale, so I have no idea what a gradual tanner would even look like.

Also, a general SPF question that I’ve had for years—sunscreen on your underarms??? Is that a thing??? My underarms get so tan during summer. I just use a vitamin C serum at night w/ glycolic acid to help with the darkness.

Especially the blue light therapies targeted for acne?

In general, zinc oxide doesn’t give very good UVA protection. The highest UVAPF I’ve seen is Neutrogena’s one which has around UVAPF 30 with 21% zinc oxide…

I use a chemical spf daily but I have a lot of PIH. I’m wondering if switching to a physical spf with a tint would help these dark marks
